Sysmex America Inc has announced its five-year sole source agreement with BioReference Laboratories Inc. BioReference Laboratories’ purchases include three HST-N Hematology Automation Systems comprised of XE-Series Automated Hematology Analyzers, Sysmex SP-1000i Automated Slidemaker/Stainers and Sysmex-distributed DM96 Automated Digital Cell Morphology Systems.

Sysmex WAM decision logic software will bring rules-based intelligence to these automation systems by consolidating data from the multiple instruments and performing expert rules-based functions and results management. The HST-N systems are linked to the AutoSorter II by Motoman Inc. BioReference Laboratories is the third largest full-service independent commercial clinical laboratory in the United States.

"As an existing customer, the reliability of Sysmex’s hematology instruments and services is well known to us. As such, BioReference Laboratories wanted to extend its current working relationship with Sysmex to include its Intelligent Automation Solution. This solution will enable us to maximize our testing capacity, minimize human intervention; improve results turnaround time and enhance the overall efficiencies of our laboratory operations," said Warren Erdmann, senior vice president and director of operations, BioReference Laboratories.

Feedback from BioReference Laboratories’ administration, pathologists, laboratory professionals, and the company’s purchasing department contributed to vendor selection. System implementation and live start-up is scheduled for summer 2009.

"We are pleased that Sysmex’s hematology products and services have met BioReference Laboratories’ performance standards. We look forward to being a part of their growth as the company continues to lay the groundwork for a sustainable future," said John Kershaw, President, Sysmex America, Inc.

BioReference Laboratories’ Sysmex Intelligent Automation Solution enables hands-free hematology testing, slide making and staining, sorting, archiving, repeat testing and decision processes; while achieving the highest throughputs within one of the industry’s smallest footprints. BioReference also will benefit from the XE-5000’s FDA-cleared body fluid analysis applications.

"By standardizing instrument platforms, information integration, and advanced technologies, laboratories can achieve unparalleled levels of optimization for laboratory operations that literally transform their productivity – all of which offer the enormous benefit of standardized care and consistency," said Kershaw.
