This ColorPAC Giardia/Cryptosporidium Rapid Assay Control Kit is designed for use with the ColorPac Giardia/Cryptosporidium Rapid immunoassay for the qualitative detection of Giardia lamblia and Cryptosporidium parvum specific antigens in aqueous extracts of fecal specimens.
The kits contain one (3mL) positive control vial for Giardia and Cryptosporidium and one (3mL) negative control vial.
Stool specimens collected for ova and parasite examination can be used in the assay. After collection the sample is added to a tube containing a treatment buffer. A biotinylated anti-Giardia capture antibody reagent is then added followed by a pooled suspension of colloidal dye-labeled monoclonal antibodies to Giardia and Cryptosporidium. The sample is then mixed and poured into a test device that contains a capture reagent for Giardia, a capture antibody for Cryptosporidium, and a control antibody that binds to excess colloidal dye conjugate.
If Giardia antigen is present, a black band develops at the GIAR. position in the window. If Cryptosporidium antigen is present, a black band appears at the CRYP. position. A black band at the CONT. position is required for valid test results. It indicates that the colloidal dye conjugate is intact and that the proper capillary flow has occurred.
Compared to microscopic examination, the assay demonstrates a sensitivity and a specificity of 100 percent.
