In a small-instrument footprint, the Minicap from Sebia Electrophoresis, Norcross, Ga, optimizes and automates electrophoresis testing in low- to medium-testing volume labs.

Users place a bar-coded primary sample tube on the system and walk away. Positive sample identification is achieved with full traceability and decreased potential for errors.

The instrument is the latest offering in the Sebia line of capillary electrophoresis technology; liquid flow electrophoresis is used with buffer serving as a medium instead of agarose gel.

Sebia has received clearance from the FDA to market the Minicap Protein 6 assay for the separation and quantitation of the six major serum protein fractions. The reagent compartment accommodates multiple assay buffers in anticipation of future menu expansion.
