productThis microbiology media for the hospital, clinical laboratory and physician office was developed using a proprietary formulation that allows for more rapid screening of maternal and neonatal Group B Streptococcus (GBS) colonization (24 hours as compared to 48 to 72 hours).
The medial does not require subculture, and most GBS strains are easily identified by the production of an orange pigment within 18 hours.
Independent comparative studies have demonstrated excellent correlation of sensitivity and specificity with both GBS agar and GBS broth to the CDC recommended LIM Broth method. These results indicate the inoculation of vaginal and rectal specimens onto GBS agar or into GBS broth, which can be substituted for the traditional LIM’s method in detecting GBS in women in labor.
