Rapid SDS-PAGE and analysis

Lab901, Loanhead, UK, unveils its new ScreenTape P200 product for rapid SDS-PAGE and analysis. Generating results in only 1 minute per sample, the protein system extends the use of the company’s existing benchtop TapeStation® instrument. Used with the TapeStation, ScreenTape P200 combines gel loading, electrophoresis, imaging, and analysis. Results include a gel image, electropherogram, molecular weight determination, and % purity. When using the system, there is no need to prime chips, stain/destain gels, image gels, or annotate gel images. It can also run just a few samples at a time, leaving unused lanes available for future experiments.

MPS-1000

Quick spinning mini centrifuge

Labnet International, Woodbridge, NJ, introduces the MPS-1000, a miniature centrifuge designed specifically for quick spins of PCR plates. The compact, benchtop instrument is 6 inches wide, and can take the place of larger centrifuge models. The MPS-1000 accepts a wide variety of PCR plates: 96-well, 384-well, skirted, and nonskirted. Operation requires users to load plates vertically into the internal rotor, close the safety cover, and press the "Run" button for a few seconds. The quick centrifugation process pulls all of the liquid samples down to the conical bottoms of the wells to ensure proper mixture and a focused location of all reagents.

Selective wavelength photodiodes

Opto Diode Corp, Newbury Park, Calif, now offers the first in a series of three new selective wavelength photodiodes. The ODD-470W features a spectral bandwidth of 100 nm and operates between 380 nm and 540 nm, with a peak sensitivity response at 470 nm. With extremely low dark current and no optical filters used, the new photodetector is designed for use in color sensors and fluorescence detection and medical diagnostic applications. Storage and operating temperatures range from -30°C to 85°C. Lead soldering temperature is at 260°C.

Measures creamatocrit of mothers’ milk

The Creamatocrit Plus™, from Separation Technology Inc, Altamonte Springs, Fla, part of Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc, is the first system dedicated to providing a fast, accurate creamatocrit measure. The creamatocrit is a simple technique for estimating the lipid concentration and caloric density in mothers’ milk. The technique is especially useful in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to guide the fractionation and feeding of high-lipid, high-calorie hindmilk in extremely low birthweight infants when accelerated short-term weight gain is desirable. The analyzer can retrieve and visualize precise, real-time pressure-monitoring data, enabling the user to quickly confirm accurate aspiration and dispense for each sample plate well. The data display also clearly shows deviations from preset guard bands and delivers online warnings. The TADM system can be programmed by the user to take specific actions in response to errors.

It monitors the positive or negative pressure in protected environments and airborne infection isolation rooms per CDC guidelines. The monitor combines patented low-pressure sensor technology with the latest in electronics, measuring and displaying pressure readings to 0.001 inches of water column resolution. The SRPM features a RGB backlit touch screen and SPDT relay for remote annunciation.
