According to an article in Technology Review, the use of a nanosensor “tattoo” and a modified iPhone will allow anemic patients to track their blood oxygen levels. A team of researchers at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Northeastern University is working on the project.

Subjects are injected with “a solution containing carefully chosen nanoparticles.” The modified iPhone is then used to “track changes in the level of fluorescence, which indicates the amount of sodium or glucose present.”
