Streck Laboratories has introduced A1c-Cellular, a whole blood cellular control manufactured for instruments measuring HbA1c. HbA1c testing provides an indicator of blood glucose concentrations maintained over the previous 3 to 4 months and is recommended by the American Diabetes Association.
Streck’s A1c-Cellular tests the entire HbA1c procedure, including the lysing of red blood cells. Patient samples must first be lysed in order to release HbA1c for measurement. Because A1c-Cellular contains intact red blood cells, it too must go through the lysing step. This ensures the entire system is working properly and providing accurate patient results.
A1c-Cellular does not need to be reconstituted, so the potential for human error due to incorrect pipetting during reconstitution is eliminated. Packaged in 1.5 mL glass vials, A1c-Cellular is convenient to use and available in two clinically significant levels. Level 1 offers a 4% to 7% HgbA1c range; level 2 offers a 9% to 13% HgbA1c range. The control offers an open-vial stability of 30 days and a closed-vial stability of 6 months.
STATS®, a free interlaboratory quality control program that ensures laboratories meet regulatory requirements for quality control records, is offered to A1c-Cellular customers. STATS produces relevant peer group comparison reports and graphs with a quick turnaround time. Data can be submitted by mail, fax, or email. The reports include customer data, peer group averages, and computer-generated Levy-Jennings graphs.
