Olympus, Center Valley, Pa, has introduced the T-Uptake assay, a complete thyroid panel for use with its AU3000i® immunoassay system, such as the TSH, T4, fT4, T3, fT3, and T-Uptake assays.

The assay measures the saturation of thyroid hormone binding capacities in patient specimens. For diagnostic purposes, the results should be used in conjunction with the company’s Total T4 determination to yield the FTI. On-board stability for thyroid assays is 28 days and turnaround time is 28 minutes to first result.

AU3000i reagents feature 2D barcodes for on-board reagent management. The AU3000i system has throughput up to 240 tests per hour, random-access processing, magnetic-particle capture, and chemiluminescent detection.

Screening of thyroid function is often indicated in persons with signs or symptoms of hypothyroidism, subclinical hypothyroidism, diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism, those who have had previous thyroid surgery or neck irradiation, and the elderly. It has been reported that about 5% of the adult US population has thyroid disease or is taking thyroid medication.
