Sunquest Information Systems, a provider of health care information technology, has signed a long-term contract with Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System (SCLHS) to provide a comprehensive laboratory information system (LIS), which will facilitate sharing clinical and financial information across the SCLHS and Exempla Healthcare system. The system’s 11 hospitals and four stand-alone clinics are located in California, Colorado, Kansas, and Montana.

The implementation of Sunquest’s solution is expected to reduce costs of IT infrastructure, system administration, and maintenance for SCLHS and Exempla. Consolidating into one system will create consistent workflow across all its facilities, enabling the organization to improve resource utilization, quality of care, and decrease test result turnaround times.

The health care networks will utilize Sunquest Laboratory™, Sunquest Laboratory SMART™ for specimen routing and tracking, Sunquest CoPathPlus™, Sunquest Laboratory Blood Bank and Blood Donor, Sunquest Collection Manager™ for positive patient ID, the Sunquest Meaningful Use certified module, and the Sunquest Physician Portal for Web-based ordering and resulting.

Standardization of the LIS is a key component of SCLHS’s ability to meet Meaningful Use criteria set forth in the HITECH Act related to ARRA. The timely deployment of information technology will play an important role in SCLHS’s eligibility to receive incentive payments for quality and interoperability standards.
