Stanbio Laboratory offers a new β-Hydroxybutyrate LiquiColor® kit for the Beckman Coulter Synchron® CX / LX / DX clinical systems. Each β-Hydroxybutyrate LiquiColor kit (Reference Number B2440-180) comes with two bottles configured to fit Beckman Coulter Synchron® analyzers. Each bottle contains the β-hydroxybutyrate enzyme (R1) and the β-hydroxybutyrate catalyst (R2). In addition, a 1.00 mmol/L standard is included. Bi-level and a tri-level controls and six-level linearity standard sets are available separately. Each bottle of the Stanbio β-Hydroxybutyrate LiquiColor® assay will yield 90 tests, for a total of 180 tests per kit.

The β-hydroxybutyrate assay is used for the determination of ß-hydroxybutyrate (blood ketone) in serum and plasma specimens. The measurement of ß-hydroxybutyrate is essential for the identification of complications of diabetes mellitus. During periods of metabolic acidosis the concentration of ketone bodies increases in blood and urine due to the lack of sufficient glucose in the cells. The major ketone body ß-hydroxybutyrate (~ 78 %) is not detectable with nitroprusside test strips commonly used for the detection of ketone bodies in urine; however, the Stanbio test is specific for ß-hydroxybutyrate, the predominant ketone body. It is not affected by interfering substances and shows a high linearity.
