Cell-Chex Auto

Body fluid control
The Cell-Chex Auto from Streck Inc, Omaha, Neb, a body fluid control for automated body fluid analysis, is assayed for the Beckman Coulter® LH 780 and Abbott Cell-Dyn® Ruby. The product verifies the accuracy of the lower RBC and WBC linearity limits of the instruments’ reportable range, allowing techs to test limits of their instruments lower than daily CBC testing would verify. It is also assayed for the Abbott Cell-Dyn 3200, Cell-Dyn 4000, and Sapphire™; Beckman Coulter LH 750/LH 755; and Sysmex XE-2100™, XT-1800i™, and XT-2000i™ instruments. It is available in 3.0-ml plastic cap-pierceable vials. It offers a closed-vial stability of 75 days and an open-vial stability of 30 days.

CancerTYPE ID

Classifies metastatic cancer
CancerTYPE ID from AviaraDx Inc, San Diego, assists physicians in diagnosing metastatic cancer types based on a 92-gene expression assay that classifies 39 tumor types and 64 cancer subtypes. The results help clinicians identify the primary tumor site and avoid repetitive imaging and immunohistological procedures in attempting to establish the cancer origin. The test employs new technologies that use gene-expression signatures for cancer classification without requiring complex microarrays and large volumes of tissue samples. The test, based on proprietary molecular technologies, is New York State approved and available through the company’s CAP-certified CLIA lab. It uses small formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded tissue samples that are available from imaging-guided needle biopsies. The company offers diagnostic tests to qualified physicians or labs through its CAP-certified CLIA laboratory service operations.

Syphilis Test Strip

For rapid delivery systems
American Bio Medica Corp, Kinderhook, NY, has begun manufacturing diagnostic test strips for syphilis for Hema Diagnostic Systems (HDS), Miramar, Fla, a privately held manufacturer of rapid diagnostic tests for infectious diseases. HDS will incorporate the strips into its Rapid 1-2-3 Hema® Express™ delivery system, a patent-pending device that provides a method that allows testing at the point of care. The Express generates results in about 15 to 20 minutes, incorporating a premarked series of lines on the sample pad, which is used to identify when sufficient blood has been taken up onto the pad. This feature aids in eliminating guesswork and ensures repeatable test results. The product will not be sold in the United States until regulatory approval is received. HDS will focus its efforts on developing markets outside of the United States where the pandemic is most prevalent.

ABsolute Blue QPCR Master Mixes

Achieve data across major platforms
Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc, Waltham, Mass, offers Thermo Scientific ABsolute™ Blue QPCR master mixes, a colored range formulated to achieve sensitive and consistent data across each of the major QPCR platforms while enhancing the contrast between reagent and plastic to ensure accurate dispensing. The combination of Thermo-Start™, a chemically modified hot-start Taq DNA polymerase, and the incorporation of dTTP instead of dUTP in the master mixes, helps ensure increased reaction sensitivity and specificity. Inclusion of an inert blue dye helps users to verify accurate dispensing. The mixes belong to a range of the company’s QPCR consumables, including specialized QPCR plates and seals, which have been developed to ensure fluorescence detection.
