The new capabilities within Clinisys Laboratory Solution convert unstructured paper forms, requisitions, and reports into searchable, governed data.

Clinisys announced the integration of document intelligence capabilities into Clinisys Laboratory Solution (CLS), designed to help laboratories capture, govern, search, and activate unstructured information across operational and scientific workflows.

Laboratories generate large volumes of forms, instrument outputs, requisitions, reports, images, quality documentation, and scientific records. Many facilities face operational hurdles caused by disconnected repositories, manual data entry, and fragmented systems that limit access to unstructured content. The document intelligence capabilities embedded within CLS allow users to access document-centric information directly within the platform, eliminating the need to navigate between disparate systems.

“Laboratories generate enormous volumes of information, much of it locked inside documents, reports, images, and scientific records,” says Anthony Ventress, chief product officer at Clinisys, in a release. “Our vision is to help laboratories transform that information into connected, searchable, governed intelligence that can be used across operations, analytics, and AI-driven workflows. Document intelligence is an important step toward building the future of connected laboratory intelligence and the foundation for intelligent laboratory workflows.”

Addressing Pre-Analytic Bottlenecks

Industry studies cited by Clinisys indicate that manual entry and transcription tasks remain a major contributor to pre-analytic workload, creating operational bottlenecks and elevating the risk of errors.

To reduce manual validation effort, the embedded processing features convert document-based information into structured, workflow-ready data. The tools utilize optical character recognition (OCR), intelligent classification, metadata extraction, and automated indexing to streamline access to information.

Centralized Governance and Workflow Integration

The integrated capabilities support centralized management and governance of laboratory documents, automated content extraction, search and retrieval across structured and unstructured data, enhanced auditability, and lifecycle management. The system also facilitates document-driven operational workflows, including review, routing, and approval processes.

The addition complements existing Clinisys investments, including the Clinisys Analytics Module, CLS CARE, electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) integration, and ongoing development of agent-enabled laboratory workflows. By extending CLS beyond routine transaction logging and into unstructured data management, the company aims to establish a trusted information baseline for laboratories preparing to adopt advanced analytics and governed artificial intelligence tools.
