Immunoassay System: ARCHITECT ci4100
The Abbott ARCHITECT ci4100 integrated system, from Abbott, Abbott Park, Ill, intended for low- to mid-volume laboratories, has complex technologies normally reserved for larger labs. The ARCHITECT ci4100 is a seamless integration of the ARCHITECT c4000 chemistry analyzer and the ARCHITECT i1000SR immunoassay analyzer allowing chemistry and immunoassay testing on one system while ensuring no clinically significant sample-to-sample carryover. The system uses the identical CHEMIFLEX and SmartWash technologies and reagents as other ARCHITECT systems to deliver equivalent results. Designed to enhance productivity, the system’s Robotic Sample Handler provides continuous access to samples while maintaining fast and consistent STAT turnaround times. It can process up to 800 chemistry tests per hour and 100 immunoassay tests per hour. Abbott’s high-, medium-, and low-volume integrated diagnostic solutions use the same software, reagents, and sample carriers for a simple, consistent user experience.

Thermo Fisher Scientific, Waltham Mass, introduces Cold Disinfection on the Thermo Scientific HM550 Cryostat. Today, cryostat disinfection is time consuming and automated methods do not completely disinfect the cryochamber. The new Cold Disinfection system allows faster, safer and complete disinfection, protecting users throughout the day; even between hazardous samples while maintaining workflow.
The system uses innovative technology (patents pending) to fumigate the cryochamber while at frozen operating chamber. The fumigant is deadly to pathogens such as TB and HIV, but is safe to users. Just activate the systems and 3 minutes later the cryostat is disinfected and ready to section the next sample.
