The MAS PTH (Parathyroid Hormone) Control from Fremont, Calif-based Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc is the newest addition to the Thermo Scientific immunoassay QC portfolio. The MAS PTH Control offers three distinct PTH levels for evaluation of automated PTH methods across the assay range. Assigned PTH values are provided for laboratory staff to expedite the process for setup of a new QC product. This human serum-based product provides accurate and reproducible results and is designed to monitor Parathyroid Hormone tests for the key automated PTH methods available in the clinical laboratory. The PTH Control is offered as a trilevel multipack to provide effective coverage of the PTH assay range. Provided in a liquid format for ease of use, the MAS PTH Control offers 30 days’ open-vial stability when stored at 2°C to 8°C.

Dropper Bottle and Control
Designed for use with most major chemistry analyzers
The Dropper Urine Chemistry Control from Redondo Beach, Calif-based Quantimetrix Corp monitors the performance of routine and STAT urine chemistry assay methods when the control is dropped directly into the instrument sample cup with a dropper bottle. Dropper Urine Chemistry Control is designed for use with most major chemistry analyzers including Advia®, AU® Series, cobas®, Dimension®, Hitachi®, Synchron®, and Vitros®, as well as for the Pyrogallol Red microprotein method and osmolality (freezing point method). The control has a 2-year unopened and open-vial stability when stored at 2°C to 8°C.
HbA1c Controls (Level 1 and Level 2)
Prepared from packed human erythrocytes
HbA1c controls, Pointe Scientific Inc, Canton, Mich, are used for monitoring the accuracy and precision of the quantitative determination of human hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) in whole blood by an automated immunoassay. The lyophilized HbA1c controls are hemolysates prepared from packed human erythrocytes. The controls provide two levels of HbA1c, one level in the normal range and the other level in the elevated range. Reconstituted controls are stable for one month at 2-8ºC or up to 3 months if stored frozen.

Homocysteine Controls (Three Levels)
Liquid ready-to-use controls
Homocysteine controls, from Pointe Scientific Inc, Canton, Mich, are used for monitoring the accuracy and precision of assays designed to quantitate homocysteine levels in human serum on automated chemistry analyzers. The trilevel Homocysteine controls are prepared from human serum, which has either been modified by dilution with Homocysteine-free serum or to which purified synthetic homocysteine has been added to obtain elevated concentrations. The controls are liquid ready-to-use. Open-vial stability is 1 month when stored at 2°C to 8ºC.

Ready-to-Use Liquid Control

A1c-Cellular from Streck Inc, Omaha, Neb, is the first HbA1c control available with intact red blood cells, and tests the entire HbA1c procedure including the lysing of the red blood cell. The product is a ready-to-use liquid control with an open-vial stability of 30 days and a closed-vial stability of 6 months at 2°C to 10°C. A1c-Cellula is appropriate for immunoassay and ionic exchange HPLC methodologies. A1c-Cellular is available in glass vials and plastic cap-pierceable vials. The plastic cap-pierceable vials allow autosampling for HbA1c analyzers with such capabilities.
Spinal and Body Fluid Control
74-day closed-vial stability when stored at 2°C to 10°C
Cell-Chex Auto from Omaha, Neb-based Streck Inc is a three-level spinal and body fluid control for evaluating the accuracy and precision of hematology instruments that measure blood cell counts in patient body fluid samples. The assay provides total RBC and WBC values for the Abbott CELL-DYN® 3200, 4000, Sapphire® and Ruby®; Beckman Coulter® LH 750/LH 755 and LH 780 (levels 2 and 3 only); and Sysmex® XE-2100™, XE-5000™, XT-4000i™, XT-2000i™, and XT-1800i™ instruments. Two-part white blood cell differential parameters are listed on the assay for the Sysmex XE-5000 and XT-4000i analyzers. Cell-Chex Auto is packaged in a plastic 3.0-mL vial with a pierceable cap. Cell-Chex Auto has a 75-day closed-vial stability and a 30-day open-vial stability when stored at 2°C to 10°C.

The MAS Cardio-Immune XL Control from Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc, Fremont, Calif, is designed to monitor serum cardiac marker test methods for automated immunoassay testing systems. The MAS CardioImmune XL Control provides low Troponin I targets for the new generation test systems in addition to newer generation cardiac markers, including BNP-32 and NT-proBNP. No additional preparation is required for these ready-to-use products with 30-day openvial stability offered for all analytes with the exception of Myoglobin, which offers 15-day claims. CardioImmune XL offers four distinctive target levels and is available as single-level kits (Level 1, 2, or 3) or as a trilevel multipack (Levels 1, 2, and 3).

Packaged separately as 10 5-mL vials of Level 1 and Level 2, this lyophilized or freeze-dried product is stable for 14 days after reconstitution. AUDIT MicroControls Inc also provides a free quality control program to its customers and provides the end user with a Levey-Jennings chart.

Quantimetrix Corp, Redondo Beach, Calif, offers Spinalscopics Spinal Fluid Cell Count Control to monitor the performance of red and white blood cell count methods in cerebrospinal fluid samples performed manually using a hemocytometer. Provided is a dropper dispenser for ease of use. The control has an 18-month unopened and 6-month open-vial stability when stored at 2°C to 8°C, as well as a 1-month open-vial stability at room temperature.
