Thermo Fisher Scientific, Waltham, Mass, has received the CE mark for its Thermo Scientific Prelude MD HPLC, Endura MD mass spectrometer, and ClinQuan MD software.

Available for general in vitro diagnostic use in Europe, the high-performance liquid chromatograph (HPLC), mass spectrometer, and LC-MS software was designed and manufactured for use in analyzing patient samples.

“We’re strongly committed to bringing the advantages of LC-MS to the clinical market,” says Bradley Hart, strategic director, life sciences mass spectrometry, clinical markets, at Thermo Fisher. “These three products are part of a larger initiative to make mass spectrometry more useful and accessible to clinicians.”

The Prelude MD HPLC provides automated sample cleanup and two channels of separation. Equipped with the company’s TurboFlow technology, the device includes integrated syringe pumps that deliver reproducible mobile phase flow and gradients. Dual HPLC channels are optimized to run identical or different tests in parallel.

The Endura MD mass spectrometer delivers high sensitivity for a wide range of compounds and matrices. With five orders of dynamic range, the instrument removes solvent vapor and blocks neutrals in order to minimize signal noise. It features selected-reaction monitoring and accommodates both heated electrospray ionization and atmospheric-pressure chemical ionization probes, which can be operated in either positive- or negative-ion modes.

ClinQuan MD software addresses requirements of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 with three default permission levels: lab director, supervisor/technical consultant, and technical/testing personnel. A simplified user interface offers step-by-step processes for method selection, building sample lists, running samples, performing daily maintenance, quality control, and reporting.
