A new collection of packaging products and services from DWK Life Sciences, Millville, NJ, is designed to enhance security and minimize waste of high-value diagnostic products. The vials, closures, and services in DWK’s packaging and production workflow solution include NextGen V and E-Z Ex-Traction vials that combine maximum sample access with a syringe or pipette tip and secure closure with stoppers, seals, and caps.
After users select the appropriate vial and closure, they can choose from a range of pretreatment and preparation services, including sterilization. The services can be used for primary packaging of lyophilized proteins, antibodies, and other compounds. Users can specify containers, closures, pretreatments, packaging, quality certifications, and delivery options by assigning a single order number (SKU) for the combined order.

“Customers responded immediately to our packaging and production workflow solution featuring high-recovery containment systems, so we made the services available for our other products used in the clinical and diagnostic market,” says Rick Schwartz, senior vice president of sales and marketing, DWK Life Sciences. “This suite of services and capabilities is available for our line of vials and dropper bottles as well.”

Both the Wheaton NextGen V vials and E-Z Ex-Traction vials feature specialty wells for maximizing sample recovery. Both vials are made from low-extractable, chemically resistant borosilicate glass that meets USP Type 1 and ASTM E 438 Type 1 Class A requirements. Clear and amber glass vials are available with or without gradations and with crimp or threaded neck finishes.

Closure choices include screw caps made from phenolic or polypropylene material. Aluminum crimp caps are also available. Both accommodate 14B styrene-butadiene, bonded PTFE-faced silicon liners, and latex-free bromobutyl stoppers. Closure systems meet Glass Packaging Institute (GPI), ISO, ASTM, and European DIN quality standards. Closures are usable in water-for-injection (WFI) applications, and they comply with US, European, and Japanese pharmacopeias.

Vials and closures can be customized so that they’re ready for use on delivery. Custom services include particulate cleaning with a choice of USP or WFI compliant rinses, endotoxin inactivation by depyrogenation to meet USP and FDA standards, and sterilization by gamma irradiation or other methods. Siliconization and silanization for minimizing interactions between product and container is also offered. Customer-specified barcodes, and tare weights for the vial and closure are available as well.

Vials are shipped in bulk pack configurations, and shrink-wrapped in a low-particulate cellular tray to ensure that they maintain a high level of cleanliness. They are delivered ready-to-use with USP certifications for traceability.
