Summary:
Festo has expanded its EHMD rotary gripper line, enhancing its precision automation capabilities for life sciences and electronics with new sizes and Z-axis compensation.
Takeaways:
- New Options:Â EHMD grippers now come in 40-mm and 50-mm sizes, with an optional Z-compensation module for seamless cap handling.
- Versatile Applications:Â Ideal for biotech, pharmaceutical, and electronics tasks like sample prep, vial handling, and barcode reading.
- Flexible Configurations: Available in fully electric or pneumatic versions, compatible with Festo’s CMMT-ST servo drive for precise force control.
Festo expands EHMD, the company’s line of compact rotary grippers with infinite rotation capabilities with new sizes and capabilities. The EHMD is ideal for life science automation applications where small objects need to be gripped and turned in a confined space. An optional module with Z-compensation automatically adjusts to cap thread pitch without moving the Z-axis, eliminating changeover times. EHMD grippers are offered in 40- and now 50-mm sizes.
Rotary Gripper Can Be Used for Sample Prep and Analysis
The EHMD is employed in such applications as in vitro diagnostics, cell or genomic research, and quality inspection in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries. This rotary gripper line can also be used in the preparation and analysis of samples; loading centrifuges; gripping, rotating, and placing microwell plates; and opening and closing various sized vials.Â
Combined with a 3D gantry and a camera, the EHMD can be incorporated into systems that carry out quality inspections, read bar codes, and print labels. Outside of lab device applications, EHMD can be used in light assembly and in the electronics industry.
Two Verisons Are Available
The EHMD comes in a fully electric version or with a pneumatic gripper. When powered by the Festo multi-protocol servo drive CMMT-ST, EHMD grippers can grasp and turn with variable levels of force.
