photo Bactrol Plus Quality Control Cultures in vials are for use in the quality control testing of microbiological media, reagents and identification systems.
The Bactrol Plus vials of lyophilized microorganisms will replace the Bactrol Disks from this company. The vials present a wider range of quality control organisms than the disks, in a user-friendly format. They are easily reconstituted, meaning there is less chance of contamination compared to the handling requirements of disks.
To use the cultures, the vial must be reconstituted with 0.25mL of Trypticase Soy Broth, saline or distilled/deionized water for aerobic bacteria and fungi. Anaerobic and microaerophilic bacteria should be rehydrated with 0.25mL of Thioglycollate Broth. The resulting suspension is ready for inoculation onto appropriate plating media.
Cultures contained in the vials are derived from nationally recognized culture collections, such as the American Type Culture Collection. Labs often use these cultures to evaluate their procedures and practices because the organisms have consistent biochemical profiles or known susceptibility patterns. Many accrediting organizations require the use of QC organisms as part of a lab quality assurance/quality control program. The single-use vials come packaged in pouches of five vials.
