The Alcian Blue-PAS Special Stains kit, for use on the OptiMax Plus Consolidated Staining System, contains the reagents necessary to run the tests.
After loading the appropriate tissue slides and solutions into the instrument’s racks, the operator chooses the Alcian Blue-PAS assay and the instrument automatically dewaxes the slides and runs the chosen protocol.
Alcian Blue-PAS stains are intended to differentiate between neutral and acidic mucosubstances. Alcian Blue features comprehensive staining for acid mucins at pH 2.5.
The staining results are insoluble in water or alcohol and do not fade appreciably over time. The PAS reaction in the tissue sections is useful for the demonstration of muccopolysaccharides. Acidic mucosubstances stain blue, neutral polysaccharides stain magenta, and other substances can be colored by both PAS and alcian blue, staining a purple color. BioGenex
