A story on SmartPlanet.com shows how a team at Cleveland Clinic Laboratories, Cleveland, helped design a $75 million, three-story reference lab.

The new lab, which replaced one built in the 1970s, can perform more than 2,000 tests, processing upward of 12 million tests each year.

The facility will be able to handle the expected rise to 17 million tests per year by 2018.
