The CytoScan™-LDH measures cytosolic enzyme lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), released as cells die, using a color-producing diaphorase-linked tetrazolium salt reaction. The amount of color produced is proportional to the number of cells that have died. Researchers can also quantitate the color produced by reading the plate with a standard plate reader. Results can be expressed as percentage of cell survival or cell death. The CytoScan-LDH can be used with both suspension and adherent cells. It detects low-level damage to cell membranes not detected with other methods, and it is simple and safe to use in any setup. CytoScan-LDH does not require the use of expensive fluorometers. The assay can be read using titer-plate readers for high-throughput applications.
