Beckman Coulter Inc offers an expanded renal function test menu on its IMMAGE® immunochemistry systems. The new assay, a test for cystatin C, aids in the diagnosis and treatment of kidney and urinary tract diseases. The assay gives hospitals and reference labs the ability to determine rapid, accurate levels of cystatin C in human serum, heparinized plasma, and EDA plasma by rate nephelometry. Quantitative determination of this protein helps physicians evaluate changes in kidney function, make timely management decisions about drug therapy, and monitor acute or chronic renal disease.
The test requires a sample volume of 10 mL and features a measuring range of 0.4–7.5 mg/L and a calibration stability of 21 days. The IMMAGE 800 features four onboard measurement methodologies, including rate nephelometry, rate-inhibition nephelometry, rate near-infrared particle immunoassay (NIPIA), and rate NIPIA inhibition.
