Updated Stat Profile Critical Care Xpress
Provides eGFR reporting with serum creatinine measurements
A software upgrade (Version 5) to the Stat Profile Critical Care Xpress analyzer from Nova Biomedical, Waltham, Mass, provides the reporting of estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) with every serum creatinine measurement. eGFR is a calculated test based that considers the effects of age, sex, and body weight on creatinine generation, thereby adjusting serum creatinine values to more accurately reflect creatinine clearance. The National Institutes of Health has instituted the National Kidney Disease Education Program that includes recommendations for measuring serum creatinine for patients at risk for kidney disease and reporting eGFR. Stat Profile Critical Care Xpress offers a comprehensive 20-test critical care profile including blood gases, electrolytes, chemistry, hematology, and co-oximetry. Version 5 software enables the analyzers to be configured for all of the currently accepted eGFR equations, including Cockcroft-Gault, MDRD, and IDMS-traceable calculations for adults, and Schwartz and Counahan-Barrett calculations for children.

Weight Recalibration Service
Zero Tolerance Policy offer
Troemner, Thorofare, NJ, a manufacturer of precision weights and provider of calibration services, has announced the Zero Tolerance Policy—a new feature for its Weight Recalibration Service. Under the new policy, if a weight is out of tolerance, the company will replace it free—though the offer does not apply to ANSI/ASTM Class 0 weights and OIML Class E1 or E2 weights. Customers can send in precision weights for recalibration service, and if a calibration weight is found to be out of tolerance, the weight will be replaced for at no charge. With this program, the company’s customers will not have to guess their final cost of weight recalibration service, or whether there will be any additional costs for replacing out-of-tolerance weights. Compact, low-cost cytocentrifuge
The new StatSpin CytoFuge 2 from Iris International Inc, Chatsworth, Calif, is a compact, low-cost cytocentrifuge that concentrates and gently deposits cells in a monolayer onto microscope slides for cytology, hematology, microbiology, and research applications. Cell presentations are easily prepared for molecular studies, immunofluorescence techniques, electron microscopy, apoptosis studies, FISH sample preparation, specialized staining procedures and correlation of flow cytometry results with morphological features. Samples from 50 µL up to 800 µL can be processed with high cell recovery. Samples are processed quickly and easily on any bench, or even in a safety hood. The covered rotor and chamber gasket reduces exposure to biohazards. The new snap-seal filter concentrators are available in disposable and reusable formats.
