ViraCor Laboratories, Lee’s Summit, Mo, a specialty molecular diagnostic reference lab, is offering the xTag Respiratory Viral Panel from Luminex Corp, Austin, Tex, a multiplexed nucleic acid test for in vitro diagnostic use that recently landed 510(K) clearance from the FDA.
The molecular diagnostic product detects 12 major respiratory viruses and subtypes simultaneously from one patient sample within hours. The results may help clinicians improve treatment choices, infection control, and public health surveillance of respiratory viruses—from the common cold to adenovirus—which together are responsible for more than 85% of cases of respiratory viral infections.
Viral targets included in the assay are denovirus, influenza A (non-specific subtype), influenza A H1, influenza A H3, influenza B, metapneumovirus, parainfluenza 1, parainfluenza 2, parainfluenza 3, respiratory syncytial virus A, respiratory syncytial virus B, and rhinovirus.
