Patient safety and reduced error in medical diagnosis are the goals of the Diagnostic Error in Medicine (DEM) Conference.
The sixth meeting of this international event, to be held from September 22 to 25 in Chicago, welcomes health professionals across all disciplines to engage and collaborate in significant dialogue.
Diagnostic errors—missed, delayed, incorrect diagnoses—account for significant harm but are underemphasized and understudied.
This conference is the only event dedicated solely to the problem of diagnostic error, convening stakeholders with a shared goal of improving patient safety.
The goals of the conference include:
- Acknowledging the frequency, impact, and public health significance of medical misdiagnosis
- Developing a constituency of advocates from across the health care delivery spectrum
- Defining the causality of, and exploring strategies to improve, diagnostic error in medicine
- Sharing research methods and results relevant to clinical reasoning, diagnostic error, and misdiagnosis-related harm
This program is jointly sponsored by the Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine and the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
This activity has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Creditâ„¢.
