The BluEcoli™ urine biplate is a culture medium for economically screening urine specimens for E coli. The biplate consists of MacConkey agar with a chromagen on one side and blood agar on the other. The user inoculates both sides of the biplate with the urine specimen. If the infecting organism is E coli, the colonies on the chromogenic side of the biplate will turn blue. The blue color is confirmatory for E coli. No further confirmation or indole testing is required. The BluEcoli urine biplate enables clinicians to select a colony from the blood agar side of the biplate to test.
