Following its recent acquisitions of Separation Technology Inc and DiaSpect Medical, global diagnostics company EKF Diagnostics highlighted two new products during the recent AACC conference in Chicago.

DiaSpect Tm 400The DiaSpect TM hemoglobin measurement system is designed to enable laboratory-quality anemia screening at the point of care and in other environments. Producing results within 1 to 2 seconds, the palm-sized device contains no moving parts, can be stored from 0°C to 50°C and includes a rechargeable battery that runs for more than 40 days at one time. The DiaSpect TM is CE marked and currently undergoing FDA approval.

The PlasmaPrep-12 centrifuge is designed for stat serum and plasma separation in hospital and laboratory settings. Suitable for coagulation studies, the unit is controlled by a microprocessor with four preprogrammed spin times. The platelet-poor plasma mode accomplishes serum or plasma separations in 3 minutes, while the platelet-rich plasma mode produces platelet-rich plasma in 30 seconds.

“We have strengthened EKF’s product and services offering over the past year through recent acquisitions and product development,” said Julian Baines, CEO of EKF. “This positions EKF at the forefront of point-of-care hematology testing provision and also, through Stanbio, as a leading clinical chemistry reagent provider. EKF now offers a comprehensive and cost-effective product range, as well as meaningfully participating in personalized medicine—an area which is quickly becoming key within the IVD industry.”
