Trax Management Services, Delaware, Ohio, has released a covid-19 test kit, PhoenixDx 2019-nCoV, under an FDA emergency use authorization. The PhoenixDx assay is a real-time qualitative RT-PCR diagnostic used to detect the covid-19 virus in patient specimens, achieving test results in 120 minutes or less.

“The PhoenixDx test kit dramatically reduces the length of time between patient swab and lab result without compromising on precision or accuracy,” says Rakan Qazziha, MD, chief science officer for Trax Management Services. “Our PhoenixDx kit uses probes and primers published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization.”

The test can be used with virtually any hospital or laboratory diagnostic instrumentation, including extraction kits from Qiagen, Roche, and RTA, and molecular analyzers from Abbott, Bio-Rad Laboratories, and Roche. Such interchangeability enables labs to begin using PhoenixDx tests immediately, without needing to purchase or source expensive new extraction kits or molecular analyzers.

The PhoenixDx tests are manufactured in Austria, with a current production capacity of one million tests per week (and the ability to meet a surge demand of five million tests per week). Trax Management Services is a service-disabled veteran-owned small business.
