Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced the launch of the Thermo Scientific Multiskan Ease Absorbance Microplate Reader, a dedicated platform engineered to support routine laboratory applications with simplified operation and dependable performance.

The instrument is designed to handle common biological assays, including protein quantification, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs), cell viability studies, enzyme activity analysis, endotoxin testing, and microbial growth monitoring. The system is tailored for academic, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and quality control laboratories that require dedicated absorbance-based measurements.

“Many laboratories are looking for technologies that align more closely with their day-to-day workflow requirements,” says Trent Colville, senior director and general manager of protein detection and quantification at Thermo Fisher Scientific, in a release. “The Multiskan Ease was developed to provide the performance researchers need for routine biological analysis in a platform that is easy to adopt, straightforward to operate and designed to support laboratory productivity.”

Addressing Practical Laboratory Pressures

Laboratories performing routine absorbance-based testing face ongoing operational challenges, including constrained budgets, shared equipment resources, and shifting workforce demands, according to the company. Thermo Fisher Scientific developed the reader specifically to deliver reliable data for standard colorimetric assays in a streamlined format.

Unlike multimode microplate readers that support multiple detection modes, the single-mode Multiskan Ease focuses exclusively on absorbance-based measurements, avoiding the operational complexity of broader systems.

The product is labeled for research use only and is not intended for use in diagnostic procedures, according to the release.
