BioImagene Inc announced the availability of the iSlide™ input device, an innovative device that allows pathologists to use a microscope-like interface to manipulate digital images of slides.
iSlide mimics a microscope stage. Pathologists using the iSlide can move a glass slide, just the way they would on a microscope stage, to ergonomically view digital images of slides on a computer monitor. The iSlide is designed to provide a superior alternative to using a conventional mouse, to navigate digital images of slides.
Dr. Robert Monroe, MD, PhD Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of BioImagene explained, “The iSlide is a more efficient way to navigate through virtual slides. The device allows me to use the same motor skills that I would use on a microscope and the viewing experience is more intuitive than if I used a conventional mouse. Additionally, the compact design makes it easy to navigate images and type a report at the same time.”
The iSlide integrates a microscope stage, a full-size keyboard, wireless mouse, speakers, and a microphone in a unified input device. Vikram Mohan, Senior Director of Marketing added, “While designing the iSlide, we integrated the commonly found components on a pathologist’s desk with this novel viewing technique, to allow a pathologist to sign out cases in the most efficient and intuitive way possible. As the motions and ergonomics of the iSlide parallel those of a microscope, pathologists used to their microscopes will still have the same level of comfort while using the iSlide.”
