photoThe ProTime3 point-of-care device monitors the PT, or Prothrombin Time of patient’s blood. This company has added it to its ProTime Microcoagulation System.
Maintaining proper PT levels is critical for patients who are on Coumadin therapy. The test can be performed either in the physician’s office, a clinic or at home by the patient or caregiver.
The patient’s medication dose can now be changed immediately if necessary, rather than waiting a day or two for blood tests to come back from the lab. The ProTime Microcoagulation System is FDA cleared for professional and patient use.
The ProTime3 consists of a small battery-powered instrument and a disposable cuvette. Approximately one drop of blood (27µl) is obtained from the patient’s finger, using ITC’s Tenderlett Plus device, and placed in the ProTime3 cuvette, which is then inserted into the instrument. The instrument quickly provides information on the patient’s blood levels, expressed in both PT seconds and INR values.
The System includes on-board quality controls and it uses a sensitive thromboplastin (ISI=1.0), as recommended by the American Heart Association and CAP.
