Purdue University is working with Fort Wayne-based Parkview Health System and the Indiana State Department of Health to begin conducting tests for covid-19 in human patients at the animal disease diagnostic laboratory of Purdue’s College of Veterinary Medicine.

Testing began after the lab received certification under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 to conduct human diagnostic testing, with Parkview Health agreeing to provide clinical oversight.

Testing will be expanded in collaboration with other hospitals, with all samples sent directly from partner hospitals to the laboratory. To avoid a testing backlog, hospitals interested in working with the laboratory are required to complete a ‘partnership inquiry’ form.

The laboratory’s goal is to turn around results the same day that samples are received in the lab.
