Bio-Rad Laboratories, a global provider of life science research and clinical diagnostics products, has updated and enhanced Exact Diagnostics RP Positive Run Control for syndromic respiratory panels. It is now available with the addition of inactivated whole virus for SARS-CoV-2.

The updated version of the unassayed external quality control, intended to monitor the performance of clinical respiratory assays, now contains 23 respiratory analytes, including SARS-CoV-2, in a single vial. The control is a combination of whole, intact virus and bacteria that have been heated or chemically inactivated, as well as synthetic RNA transcripts.

Exact Diagnostics RP Positive Run Control is designed to test the entire process of a molecular assay, including extraction, detection, and amplification. The multi-analyte control targets 23 respiratory analytes in a single vial, saving laboratories time and space on their instruments. Routine use of the Exact Diagnostics RP Positive Run Control allows laboratories to meet their individualized quality control plans including evaluation of reagent lot changes and new shipments, monitoring of multiple identical devices, and assessment of different personnel and locations, according to the company.
