In order to maintain certification, individuals ASCP-certified in 2004 are required to complete the Certification Maintenance Program (CMP) prior to the month their certification expires in 2007 in order to maintain their certification status. Those completing the CMP will receive a time limited certificate valid from 2007 to 2010, as well as the designation "CM" in superscript after their certification designation (eg, MT(ASCP)CM).

The Certification Maintenance Program was developed to enable certified individuals to demonstrate their proficiency in the clinical laboratory on a continual basis throughout their careers. The CMP Booklet, as well as additional information is available online at the following link: www.ascp.org/certification/CMP/.
