1300 Series A2 Biological Safety Cabinets

Most energy-efficient models to date
Thermo Fisher Scientific, Milford, Mass, introduces its energy efficient Thermo Scientific 1300 Series A2 biological safety cabinets. The new models are available in both coated interior and one-piece stainless steel interior options. Both offer a reduced airflow using a smaller 8-inch aperture to extend the life of the HEPA filters by 20% while requiring only 180 watts to operate. Lower airflow exhaust also minimizes the cost of laboratory air exchange when these cabinets are thimble-ducted for hazardous applications. The lower airflow requirements of the 1300 Series A2 can reduce noise levels to as low as 62 dB(A).

TW Series Electronic Balances

Featuring one-touch operation
Shimadzu Scientific Instruments, Columbia, Md, introduces the TW series to its line of top-loading electronic balances, adding an internal calibration capability to the company’s existing line of TX balances and extending the series’ range to 420 g capacity for 0.001 g readability and up to 4,200 g capacity for 0.01 g readability. The motorized internal calibration capability allows users to calibrate the balance in 15 seconds with the touch of a button. Additionally, TW series balances are equipped with the company’s UniBloc integral mass sensor, which is constructed from a one-piece aluminum alloy unit, replacing 70 parts found in conventional electronic balances. TW series balances feature one-touch operation to quickly adjust the desired ratio of stability and response for every application, even during measurement.

Micro-pumps

Pumps feature zero metallic contamination
Bio-Chem Fluidics, Boonton, NJ, offers a full line of micro-pumps that deliver precise fluid volumes and accurate, discrete dispense volumes from 4 to 250 μL. Pumps with dispense volumes of 20 μL and larger are self priming and don’t require a separate priming cycle. All of the pumps’ wetted parts are constructed from nonmetallic, inert materials for zero metallic contamination to the fluid stream passing through the pump. Pumps are capable of continuous-duty operation with a high degree of repeatability. Users can also customize their pump order, specifying the construction materials, operating voltages, and dispense volumes that fit their application.
