RTR-61 Wireless/Waterproof Data Logger

For use with penetration-type sensors

The new RTR-61 wireless/waterproof data logger from TandD Corp, Saratoga Springs, NY, reads or records the temperature from penetration-type sensors. A single push-button data capture logs the time, date, temperature, operator ID, and item ID. An LCD display reads the current value, and the logger is capable of storing up to 1,800 readings. Penetration probes are 5 inches or 10 inches long. Probes can be attached directly to the logger or to a handle with a 36-inch cable. The unit and its penetration probes are useful for measuring temperature or for monitoring the core temperature of foods, liquids, or any material that can be penetrated by the probe. Stored data can be downloaded to a PC or through a LAN using an optional communications set, and data can be monitored and downloaded over the Internet.

Purair Ductless Fume Hoods

Protection from hazardous substances

Air Science USA, Fort Myers, Fla, introduces the Purair range of ductless fume hoods featuring filter alarms and safety features. These units are available from 2 to 8 feet, and help provide operator protection when using hazardous substances. A face velocity at 100 fpm helps ensure containment of fumes, and an alarm alerts operators when the airflow falls to an unacceptable level. Mechanisms in the head section of the unit are on the clean side of the filter, helping to prevent contamination, and switches and electrical components are isolated from dirty airflow and contamination. The work area has a removable spillage tray that can be cleaned, and optional integral lighting is available. The main filter can be chosen from 14 different types of carbon, which include specialty media for vapors of organics, solvents, acids, mercury, and formaldehyde. The units are energy saving. Clean air is recirculated into the lab, helping to avoid exhausting air-conditioned and/or heated air in the atmosphere. HEPA filters for particulate filtration are available.

Lab-Aire ll Drying Racks

Small footprint

The small footprint of the new Lab-Aire® ll drying racks from Bel-Art Products, Pequannock, NJ, are made from corrosion-resistant ABS plastic, and hold labware on up to 114 peg positions while occupying a footprint of no more than 37.5 cm x 12.5 cm (15 inches x 5 inches). The racks are available in benchtop, wall-mount, and electrical models varying in heights, and are available single- and double-sided. Each of the models offers three different size and length v-channel pegs that can be repositioned to hold a variety of labware. The products’ small footprint accommodates most space-challenged labs, and the double-sided models provide twice the capacity with only a slightly larger footprint. Wall-mount units are useful with mounting points sized to fit standard pegboards to relocate dryers off the work surface. For busy labs where frequently used and fragile labware is hand washed, the electrical models provide more than 400 watts of heated air circulating into and around labware to speed drying time.
