MicroPoration

Transfection of small sample volumes

BTX, Holliston, Mass, has introduced a New MicroPoration technology for transfection of 10µl to 100µl sample volumes. Microporation is a novel electroporation technology that enables the transfection of small sample volumes. Transfection takes place in the actual pipette tip. This nonviral method is also designed for transfecting a wide range of hard-to-transfect cells including primary cells, human stem cells, and neurons. The BTX system consists of a high-performance pulse generator, a safety chamber, and a MicroPorator pipette. Presterilized MicroPoration disposable tips are manufactured using micromachining technology. The High Performance Pulse Generator has a graphical user interface for easy setting and operation. All electrical parameters are controlled by the user—including voltage, number of pulses, and pulse duration. Preoptimized electrical parameters are provided and updated through the technical support group. The BTX global technical support team will assist scientists worldwide to optimize applications and choose the best accessories for given applications.

C-Chip

Disposable plastic hemocytometer

Advanced Microscopy Group, Mill Creek, Wash, has announced its distribution of C-Chip, a disposable plastic hemocytometer used for manual cell/particle counting. The lightweight, scratchproof, unbreakable design provides an alternative to conventional glass hemocytometers. The Neubauer improved grid pattern is embedded on quartz-grade optical plastic. Each grid pattern has 9 large squares, each measuring 1 by 1 mm and a total counting area of 3 by 3 mm. Two precision-engineered counting chambers with integrated coverslips provide accuracy and convenience and also reduce the risk of contamination and exposure to potentially infectious material, increasing productivity by eliminating cleaning and reusing. Each C-Chip is individually packaged and features 2 enclosed chambers (100 µm depth) with separate ports for sample loading.

Ergo-Mate

Pipetting aid

Biohit Inc, Neptune, NJ, has introduced the Ergo-Mate, an ergonomic pipetting system designed to aid in compliance with ISO 8655, which recommends touching off samples on the wall of the receiving vessels when pipetting, especially with small volumes. Ergo-Mate removes the need to hold the plate at any angle and allows for safe dispensing. When reversed, the Ergo-Mate creates an aerosol barrier for use in hoods or on benchtop surfaces. It is designed for safe transporting of plates and can be reversed and used for flat-surface pipetting or as an incubation station with a lid.
