The editors at PittCon 2007 awarded the Silver Editors’ Award to Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc, for its LTQ XL linear ion trap mass spectrometer.

The device features Electron Transfer Dissociation (ETD) technology and is available for the first time on a linear ion trap mass spectrometer. The technology provides new peptide structural information not available from conventional collisionally induced dissociation methods.

The new fragmentation technique significantly improves protein characterization, post-translational modification analysis and top-down or middle-down sequencing of proteins and peptides. The new device offers multiple dissociation techniques, Pulsed Q Dissociation, ETD, and CID.
