This is a companion article to the feature “Clinical Labs and the Rise of Precision Medicine.”
When a clinical lab and its affiliated hospitals and providers implement Novaseek’s clinical data network for research (CDNR) platform, they join a networked group of institutions that are helping to advance precision medicine and get better medicines to patients faster. For clinical lab professionals, making use of the CDNR platform is very simple.
Once patients provide consent to share their coded data and biospecimens for research, Novaseek’s software monitors the flow of those data and specimens through the networked institutions’ clinical labs.
When a research request is received, Novaseek matches the request with appropriate biospecimens and informs the lab in possession of the specimens via an automated notification system. Lab staff receive a ‘pick list’ via a secure tablet or Web portal.
The lab contact then uses a Novaseek-provided tube and shipment kit to send out the specimens as part of the lab’s existing ‘send-out’ workflow (see Figure 3).
