The Vizient Innovative Technology Program evaluates products submitted through client-led councils for their potential to improve clinical care, patient safety, and business operations.
Sarstedt Inc, the US subsidiary of global medical technology company Sarstedt, announced that its Tempus1800 Sample Transport System has received an Innovative Technology contract from Vizient, a provider-driven healthcare performance improvement company.
The contract, awarded March 1, 2026, followed a review by hospital experts serving on one of Vizient’s client-led councils. According to Vizient, Innovative Technology contracts are recommended after review and interaction with products submitted through the company’s Innovative Technology Program, which identifies technologies with the potential to enhance clinical care, patient safety, healthcare worker safety, or improve business operations of healthcare organizations.
“Tempus1800 demonstrates Sarstedt’s commitment to improving precision and speed throughout the diagnostic workflow. By enabling direct, continuous sample transport, laboratories can eliminate bottlenecks, reduce process variability, and achieve more consistent performance,” says Brett Bartles, chief executive officer and president of Sarstedt Inc, in a release. “Shorter, more reliable turnaround times support timely clinical decisions and ultimately enhance patient care. With seamless integration into laboratory automation and a scalable infrastructure design, Tempus1800 positions laboratories to meet rising operational demands—now and in the years ahead.”
How the Vizient Evaluation Process Works
Vizient client-led councils assess submitted products for meaningful differentiation within the current healthcare landscape. If a product is determined to be innovative, Vizient may award a contract outside of the competitive bid cycle.
“Through the Vizient client-led council evaluation process, Tempus1800 demonstrated the potential to offer meaningful differentiation in today’s competitive landscape. After careful review, the council recommended an Innovative Technology contract to Sarstedt Inc,” says Kelly Flaharty, associate vice president of contract operations for Vizient, in a release.
Vizient represents a diverse client base that includes academic medical centers, pediatric facilities, community hospitals, integrated health delivery networks, and non-acute healthcare providers, with a portfolio representing more than $156 billion in annual purchasing volume.
