The expanded agreement gives Alamar commercial rights to ALZpath’s pTau217 antibody for in vitro diagnostic assays, extending the collaboration from research-use tests to clinical diagnostics.
ALZpath and Alamar Biosciences have expanded their strategic agreement to include clinical diagnostics for Alzheimer’s disease. The broadened collaboration grants Alamar commercial rights to utilize the proprietary pTau217 antibody from ALZpath in blood-based diagnostic tests intended for clinical use.
The companies initially entered a strategic agreement in February 2024 to integrate the antibody into research use only assays. This expansion allows Alamar, as well as its customers and collaborators, to develop in vitro diagnostic (IVD) assays using the antibody, which may broaden access to blood-based Alzheimer’s disease testing.
“Growing our collaboration with Alamar represents another important step toward making blood-based Alzheimer’s disease testing more accessible to clinicians and patients,” says Mike Banville, CEO of ALZpath, in a release. “As adoption of pTau217 continues to accelerate worldwide, we remain focused on enabling our partners to deliver clinically validated diagnostic solutions that provide earlier answers and support better patient care.”
The announcement will be made during the Association for Diagnostics and Laboratory Medicine Annual Meeting, where the adoption of blood-based Alzheimer’s disease biomarkers is a central theme. The momentum for these biomarkers was also noted earlier this month at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference, where more than 140 presentations and posters featured data from assay panels incorporating the ALZpath antibody.
According to the companies, the use of the antibody in various blood-based tests is intended to assist in how the disease is detected, treated, and monitored. By licensing the technology to industry leaders and laboratories, the collaboration aims to provide scalable testing to clinicians and patients.
