MININEPHPLUS with Freelite
Binding Site, Birmingham, UK, launches its new MININEPHPLUS™, a semiautomated nephelometer, together with Freelite™ serum-free light chain assays (recommended by International Myeloma Working Group guidelines for diagnosis, prognosis, and when monitoring patients with monoclonal gammopathies). The combination of Freelite and MININEPHPLUS will enable laboratories with small Freelite workloads to provide results for this essential assay quickly and easily. The MININEPHPLUS is easy to use, with simple on-screen instructions and assay-specific magnetic swipe cards containing preprogrammed calibration curves. Automatic assay blanking and reagent mixing ensures consistent results, and the preprogrammed integrated single-button pipette improves precision. An optional handheld sample bar code scanner, plus automatic calculation of sample results, is also available.

The new Cold Disinfection system allows faster, safer, and complete disinfection, protecting users throughout the day—even between hazardous samples. The system uses patent-pending technology to fumigate the cryochamber while at frozen operating chamber. The fumigant is deadly to pathogens such as TB and HIV, but is safe to users. Upright microscope for materials examinations
Carl Zeiss, Thornwood, NY, introduces the Axio Imager Vario, a microscope module for industrial tasks where large samples requiring various contrasting methods are examined. Sample space has been adapted to object sizes with up to 300 mm lateral and up to 250 mm vertical extension. Highly precise guideways ensure exact adaptation of the sample area in the z direction. Sample stages with travel distances of up to 300 mm can be used on the stable aluminum base plate. It can be combined with AxioCam microscope cameras and AxioVision software for image recording, documentation, and archiving.

The instrument features a broad wavelength range including UV area and pathlength correction, as well as fast spectral scanning, making it an ideal tool for virtually any photometric research application, including DNA, RNA, and protein analysis. The spectrophotometer can support endpoint, kinetic, and spectral scanning assays at fast speeds, and any measurement wavelength between 200 and 1,000 nm can be selected at any time with the advanced monochromator-based optical system. The instrument can be controlled as a stand-alone unit with dedicated software for quick and simple cuvette and plate measurements.
