The deal expands Leica’s anatomic pathology portfolio by adding pre-analytical consumables and equipment to support clinical histology workflows.

Leica Biosystems, a Danaher company focused on digital and anatomic pathology solutions, has completed its acquisition of privately held StatLab Medical Products from Linden Capital Partners and Audax Private Equity.

StatLab is a developer and manufacturer of pre-analytical consumables and equipment used in anatomic pathology and histology laboratories. The transaction integrates StatLab’s consumables portfolio into Leica Biosystems’ infrastructure, which includes instrumentation and software for specimen collection, tissue preparation, advanced staining, digital imaging, and artificial intelligence-enabled diagnostic analysis.

“We are pleased to officially welcome StatLab to Leica Biosystems, uniting StatLab’s trusted portfolio and deep customer relationships with Leica Biosystems’ global leadership in digital and computational pathology and AI-enabled diagnostics,” says Gustavo Perez-Fernandez, group executive of Danaher’s diagnostics business and president of Leica Biosystems, in a release. “Together, we are even better positioned to help laboratories achieve the consistency, standardization and quality needed to advance precision oncology at scale. When clinicians have access to timely, high-quality diagnostic information, they are better equipped to understand each patient’s cancer and determine the most appropriate care approach. Every step we take to accelerate critical cancer diagnostics helps patients get on the path to treatment faster.”

Addressing Histology Workflow and Staffing Pressures

The addition of pre-analytical consumables is aimed at helping clinical laboratories streamline operations amid mounting industry pressures. Pathology departments face increasing specimen volumes, expanding diagnostic panel complexity, and ongoing laboratory workforce shortages.

By connecting pre-analytical consumables directly with downstream automated staining, whole-slide digital imaging, and computational pathology platforms, the combined business aims to reduce workflow variation and improve diagnostic turnaround times from initial tissue accessioning to final pathologist review.

The expanded portfolio is also intended to support precision oncology initiatives and companion diagnostic development conducted in partnership with biopharmaceutical companies through the Danaher diagnostics network. Leica Biosystems stated that product distribution, customer service, and technical support will continue without interruption as the integration proceeds.
