Laboratory Software

TRACKS EQUIPMENT USAGE

Anami Communications division, the information technology and consulting division of Cornet Technology Inc (CTI), Washington, DC, has made available Lab Track, a stand-alone software solution that tracks and records equipment usage in a laboratory environment. Lab Track gives lab managers complete, secure, and flexible access and control of any piece of lab equipment connected to a PC. Recorded data is stored in an internal database for reference, as needed, by lab administrators. The software runs on a Microsoft® Windows® platform and records equipment usage 24/7. It allows lab managers to set specific lab rules based on hours of operation; creates comprehensive billing reports; and generates usage reports on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis. A free trial version can be downloaded through Cornet Technology’s Web site.

3D CAD Software

COMPATIBLE WITH LPX-600 LASER SCANNER

Able to work with raw scanned data, Lake Forest, Calif-based SolidWorks 2007 Office Premium offers 3D CAD users compatibility with Roland’s LPX-600 3D laser scanner. With the touch of a button, users can now use the LPX-600 to capture detailed models with watertight surfaces. The LPX-600 scans objects up to 16 inches tall and 10 inches wide. The desktop device then automatically generates detailed models with a watertight surface and resolutions up to 0.008 inch. It captures complex data for consumer products, packaging, jewelry, and a host of biomedical applications. Bundled LPX EZ Studio reverse engineering software automatically fills holes, scans, aligns, and merges planes of 3D models that can be used directly in SolidWorks 2007 Office Premium. The software supports a wide range of data-output formats, including STL, PIX, and 3DM. STL files are used by the industry’s most popular rapid prototyping systems, including those manufactured by Roland, 3D Systems, Stratasys, Z-Corp, and Solidscape.
